1.- Welcome reception (Monday afternoon, 31st of August 2015) (Schedule  16.00-21.00h)

Centro Cultural La Nau: de la Universidad st., 2 - Valencia

La Nau university building has been the seat of the University of Valencia ever since it was founded in the late 15th century. The building is a fine example of Valencian Neoclassical architecture, as can be especially seen in the cloister and the façades. Its current architectural configuration is the outcome of a number of interventions that have gradually given the building its function, all along five centuries. Today, apart from hosting the Rector’s office, it has become a Cultural Centre (called “La Nau”) for a wide range of UV activities (exhibitions, theatre and music) and a new meeting point for conferences. It is also the seat of the Historic Library and different university services operating in the fields of culture and heritage.  The neo-classical façades were designed by Martorell in 1889, except for the side on the Plaza del Patriarca, which was finished in about the middle of the XX century. A fountain, which was not part of the original design, was added later, as was the upper cloister, in 1931. The auditorium, the neo-classical chapel and the library are of particular interest (see link)

A walk through Valencia's old town. Valencia was founded in the year 138 B.C by the Romans, who established their Forum in the Plaza de la Almoina, under which lies today a museum of Roman ruins. After the Romans, the Visigoths arrived in Valencia but in 714, the Muslims established control of the city, a situation that lasted until 1238 when the King of the Crown of Aragon, Jaime I, conquered the city. The Arabs left a profound legacy with their irrigation systems, recipes and artistic influences that are relevant and noticeable right up to the present day
